Don’t Let Your Doc Mismanage You!
If you want to keep your thyroid you must manage it diligently. One of the reasons doctors want to remove our thyroids is because thyroid storm can be dangerous and even deadly. Doctors are afraid if they leave your hyper thyroid intact and you stop managing it, they could be held liable if you go into thyroid storm and have a heart attack, stroke, go into a coma or die. The reason is not because it’s best for you! It’s because it’s best for them. Your quality of life will always be better with your own natural thyroid hormone. Always! And you MUST manage it diligently!
So, how do we manage our hyper thyroids diligently? By monthly testing! The thyroid feedback loop takes about 2-3 weeks to complete. Then we want another week to determine exactly where our current dose has landed us. In order to achieve full antibody remission (not just euthyroid) we must maintain optimal thyroid levels over a long period of time. Then Graves antibodies will slowly drop into remission.
Every month you must test and adjust your MMI or CBZ dose and your iodine intake to maintain or achieve optimal thyroid levels. Optimal is different for each person so first you must discover yours. The reference ranges they use are far too broad. Free T4 and/or FT3 can be at the bottom of the range and most people will have hyPO symptoms. Or at the top of the range and most people will have hyper symptoms. You must find your sweet spot where you’re symptom free then maintain that. Average time to full antibody remission is 2-4 years of optimal thyroid levels. Key word there is optimal. Normal range is rarely good enough.
If your doctor won’t test your levels frequently enough, then you must either convince them or find a new doc. I have arranged a huge discount for USA residents to order lab work yourself, no doctor’s order needed. Just go here to order them ThyroidKeepers.com A Thyroid Basic (TSH, FT4 and FT3) is only $89. Most insurance will reimburse.
So, how do you adjust your dose every month to find or maintain optimal thyroid levels? This is something I can’t teach in a general way as it’s different for each person. I recommend allowing me to help you get optimal and then maintain it until you understand well enough to do it yourself. You will be doing this the rest of your life, so learn it!!
Using my Thyroid Keepers Protocol to achieve full antibody remission is firm and stable remission! We hope our Graves will stay in remission forever. And for many it does. I’m at 5 years and counting. But, you will still need to keep an eye on it for life. Things like stress and illness can cause spikes in both thyroid levels and antibodies.
I my ! Do you your ?
