Holiday Stress and Fatigue!
For this week’s Topic of the Week! I’d like to talk about holiday stress. Any stress, even good stress (vacations, travel, family, good food), plays a significant role in derailing your hard earned stability in your thyroid levels. You have a chronic illness that is delicately managed and maintained so it is OK to take a step back and delegate to others when possible. I get it, we’re mostly women and WE make the holidays happen and happy. It’s OK to change some of these “norms” as part of your self care!!
Please avoid these pitfalls and make appropriate changes.
I see thyroid levels spike in January because of cheating on iodine intake.
I see thyroid levels spike because of stress. Did I already say that? Yep, and it needs to be repeated. Avoid the stress.
I see hard earned stability lost because monthly labs are missed or late. And doses of meds are missed.
Try to avoid depression. This one’s especially hard during the holidays for some. Do nice things for yourself because you deserve it and you are worth it! Self care and taking care of your thyroid is being nice to yourself. So are lavender baths, candles and pillow sprays.
Lemon balm tea, chamomile tea, edible lavender and L-Theanine are great calming tools against stress. Use them.
Every January I get very busy because too many neglect themselves over the holidays. Please plan ahead when scheduling consults and expect longer wait times on Lab Interpretations.
Stay on track on your path to optimal thyroid stability and antibody remission because you can delegate chores but your thyroid care is all on you.
My s stress free holidays! Your does too!!!
