Tepezza – New Treatment for Graves Ophthalmic Disease
I’ve finally worked with enough Gravesters who have had the Tepezza infusions to form an educated opinion about its usefulness and what’s needed for the best success.
To get the best results you must be well managed, optimal and stable on low dose MMI and targeted low iodine intake for at least 6 to 9 months.
The only time I recommend using it before Graves and thyroid are optimal and stable is when eye protrusion is severe enough to cause double vision.
Sadly, it does not lower antibodies alone. You must be well managed and optimal with antibodies already on a steady and stable decline to see improvement in antibody reduction speed.
It comes with some nasty side effects. Side effects nasty enough to cause instability in thyroid levels that are not optimal and stable. Thus working against antibody reduction, the root cause of the condition.
My conclusion is that it’s a good quick fix for severe cases but to truly get the best benefit we must invest in the year or so of the diligence necessary to achieve stable and optimal levels first. Basically, It’s not much more than a useful tool in our proper Graves/Hyperthyroidism management toolbox.
